Cowboys OC Brian Schottenheimer Addresses CeeDee Lamb’s Referee Collision vs. Rams

The Dallas Cowboys kept most starters on the bench for their preseason matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, but that didn’t mean players were entirely safe from odd mishaps. During the game, CeeDee Lamb was celebrating on the white sideline area when a referee collided with his back, sending both of them to the ground.

Fortunately, Lamb avoided injury, but he was still flagged for a “foul against an official” despite wearing street clothes. While it was something to laugh about afterward, head coach Brian Schottenheimer addressed it more seriously when asked.

“I hope the guy’s OK. They said he’s fine, the official he ran into, but we have to be better than that,” Schottenheimer told ESPN’s Todd Archer. “CeeDee knows better. We know better.”

After the game, Alex Moore explained the situation in the pool report.

“It’s sideline interference. CeeDee Lamb was in the restricted white border area, which is where we officiate the game. The official was focused solely on the play and ran into CeeDee, who was in that restricted zone,” Moore said. “That’s what happened. And with that contact, it’s automatically a foul.”

It’s a lesson learned for Lamb, who now knows to keep clear of the sidelines while celebrating.

The Cowboys had a disappointing season last year, largely due to injuries, but there’s plenty of optimism heading into this campaign. Lamb himself is very confident in the team’s chances.

“I like us versus anybody, honestly,” Lamb said, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. “Anyone, any room, I don’t care what the media says. I see it; I ignore it. We’ll see you in September… I feel like the league knows what happens when I’m healthy and I have Dak for a full season. But if not, I’ll gladly show you what it’s going to be this year.”

When Prescott and Lamb are both healthy, they may form one of the league’s elite quarterback-wide receiver duos. With the addition of top receiver George Pickens, expectations for the offense are sky-high this season.
