Lions’ Morice Norris Back at Team Facility After Frightening Injury

Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris returned to the team facility on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Norris had been released from an Atlanta-area hospital and was back home on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was hurt on the opening play of the fourth quarter in Friday’s preseason clash against the Atlanta Falcons. While attempting a diving tackle on Falcons running back Nathan Carter, his facemask forcefully collided with Carter’s thigh/knee area.

He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, every update since the frightening incident has been encouraging.

The Lions reported Norris was stable and able to move and feel all of his limbs shortly after the game stopped.

Norris posted on Instagram Saturday morning, writing, “Amen Amen I’m all good man don’t stress it appreciate all the check ins and love.”

Over the weekend, Lions cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. shared screenshots from FaceTime calls with Norris.

The preseason contest was eventually halted after the injury — but only after Falcons quarterback Emory Jones took a snap, with both teams standing still. Players linked arms in prayer as the clock ticked from 14:50 to around 6:30 in the fourth quarter, when officials suspended the action.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell praised Falcons head coach Raheem Morris for the way the situation was handled in Atlanta.

“He’s the ultimate class act,” Campbell said Friday night. “We agreed it just didn’t feel right to finish that game. That man is a class act (and) always has been.”

Campbell explained he told his players, after Norris was placed in the ambulance, that both teams would kneel for the remainder of the matchup. Despite over eight minutes running off the clock after the injury, the NFL’s gamebook recorded the final play at 14:50.

No additional injury details have been released, apart from Norris being stable with full movement and feeling in his extremities. Still, the positive signs continued, as Norris rejoined his teammates at the facility just two days after the incident.
