Liverpool urged to propose massive swap deal to persuade Newcastle into selling Isak

Premier League insider Keith Wyness has advised Liverpool they could still secure Alexander Isak from Newcastle if they table a huge-value player-plus-cash offer.

Liverpool have already made some major additions this summer. The reigning Premier League champions spent over £100million on Florian Wirtz, and also brought in Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and several more recruits.

However, the player they desire above all others is yet to arrive at Anfield.

Reports indicate Newcastle forward Isak informed the club of his wish to leave some time ago, with Liverpool emerging as his preferred destination. He has even vacated his home in the North East to try and force the move.

Liverpool’s most recent offer of £110million was rejected, with Newcastle unwilling to part ways with Isak before securing a replacement.

Still, Wyness believes the Reds could make it happen by offering a player swap alongside £120m for the striker, who hit 23 Premier League goals last season.

“The only thing I think could unlock this, if Liverpool are still keen, is a swap plus £120m. That, I believe, is realistic and could work,” Wyness told Football Insider.

“Newcastle still have needs across several positions, and Liverpool have plenty of quality in depth. That could be the move to break the deadlock right now.

“In their second game of the season, Liverpool visit St James’ Park. That match is bound to be fiery, given the circumstances. Which shirt will Isak be wearing? That will be fascinating to see. Let’s wait and watch.”

Wyness also insists Newcastle should take a firm stance to show no player is above the club, criticising Isak’s approach.

“I think Isak has misplayed this, and I’d be very tough on him if I were in charge,” Wyness said.

“If I were Newcastle’s CEO, I’d run a strong media campaign backing the club’s position and making it clear to supporters that this was his decision.

“So here we are. It’s one of those transfer window sagas, probably the biggest right now. It’s thrilling – a real soap opera, and that’s why it draws us in.”

Liverpool are also edging closer to signing both Giovanni Leoni and Marc Guehi, having reportedly agreed personal terms with the former.

It is understood they have already settled personal terms with Crystal Palace defender Guehi.

In connection with those signings, Liverpool have reportedly decided not to sell centre-back Ibrahima Konate this summer, despite interest from Real Madrid.

Another major decision concerns the lack of a winger purchase after Luis Diaz’s departure. Club chiefs have dismissed rumours linking them to Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, insisting they do not want to hinder the progress of Rio Ngumoha.
