There are several alterations from the 2024/25 campaign as Martin Dubravka, Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff have departed, leaving the No. 1, 9 and 36 shirts unoccupied.

The Magpies have also added Anthony Elanga, who takes the No. 20 shirt, and Aaron Ramsdale, who has been assigned No. 32.

Malick Thiaw is expected to complete his move to the club this week before the Premier League opener against Aston Villa, with his squad number yet to be revealed.

Changes from last season’s list see Nick Pope inherit Dubravka’s No. 1 shirt, confirming he remains Eddie Howe’s preferred goalkeeper despite Ramsdale’s arrival.

Lewis Hall has also moved from No. 20 to the No. 3 jersey, reflecting a greater role in the team after an impressive 2024/25 season before his injury.

The iconic No. 9 shirt is the most notable vacancy and is likely being reserved for a potential attacking signing.

It had been anticipated that Isak would be offered first choice on the No. 9 shirt at Newcastle, but the forward had made clear his preference to stay with No. 14.

However, after stating that, Isak has asked to leave Newcastle and has skipped all of the club’s pre-season work since returning from Austria a month ago. He will not play in the opener at Aston Villa, with reports claiming he is unwilling to feature for the club again as Liverpool pursue him.

Newcastle have nonetheless included Isak in their squad list as No. 14, signalling that he remains part of the club – for now. Many supporters had urged the removal of Isak’s number and name from the squad in response to his recent actions.

Squad numbers are allocated at the club’s discretion, meaning Newcastle could have omitted him entirely if they had chosen. Their decision, whether procedural or strategic, indicates a potential route for his return to first-team contention.

Summer arrival Park Seung-soo impressed in pre-season outings for Newcastle. The 18-year-old wore No. 64 in those matches but did not appear in the official squad number list ahead of the Premier League campaign.

Sean Neave, Alfie Harrison and Leo Shahar were also absent from Newcastle’s released squad numbers.
