Newcastle United are on the verge of finalisin an agreement to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, with a transfer potentially wrapped up before the week concludes, per a report from Africa Foot.
The Magpies have been searching for a new striker this summer, amid uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future. Liverpool remain interested in the Sweden international, with GIVEMESPORT’s Ben Jacobs revealing that Isak awaits a call from the Reds, who plan to submit another bid after having a £110m offer turned down.
Should Newcastle sanction Isak’s departure during the summer window, they will likely want a suitable replacement in place first. Wissa is said to be among their targets, though Brentford face a similar scenario. The Bees have been keen to secure a new striker before allowing Wissa to leave, in line with his desire to move on.
Africa Foot claims Wissa is now close to exiting Brentford, with Newcastle pushing to complete a deal. The move could be confirmed this week, with Brentford progressing in talks to land Arnaud Kalimuendo.
Wissa, labelled ‘exceptional’ by Breaking The Lines, delivered a strong 2024/2025 season for Brentford. It remains to be seen if Eddie Howe intends to partner him with Isak should the Swede remain. This pursuit follows GIVEMESPORT’s Fabrizio Romano revealing that Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey is also nearing a St James’ Park switch.
After a slow summer window, with only Aaron Ramsdale and Anthony Elanga arriving so far, Newcastle’s activity is starting to accelerate ahead of the Premier League’s return. Wissa’s signing would boost Howe’s goal threat, but the impact on Isak’s future is yet to unfold.
The Magpies kick off their campaign on Saturday with an away clash against Aston Villa, then face Liverpool at home in their first 2025/2026 St James’ Park fixture. They close August with a visit to newly-promoted Leeds United.
