After Yoane Wissa, ‘big possibility’ Newcastle complete deal for Chelsea forward similar to Alexander Isak

Isak is currently sidelined at Newcastle after requesting a move away from the club. Liverpool had a huge bid turned down and have pulled out of negotiations, with manager Eddie Howe keeping Isak out of the senior squad until the matter is settled.

Newcastle could secure Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who is also absent from his team due to his own unresolved transfer situation.

If Isak departs, Newcastle are weighing up a move for Jackson – who is available to leave Chelsea.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has stated Yoane Wissa will not feature in their first Premier League match of the season as his future remains uncertain.

That update, alongside Brentford’s pursuit of Bournemouth attacker Dango Outtara, has led Newcastle to speed up their push for Wissa, according to TBR Football.

Sources at Newcastle have informed TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Wissa is targeted as Callum Wilson’s successor, with Jackson viewed as the likelier Isak replacement.

He explained: “As we know, Wissa is meant to replace Wilson. But Jackson is still a major focus for them and is expected to depart Chelsea.

“I also think the fact that Nicolas Jackson has, through the media, made clear he wishes to join Newcastle is important. Eddie Howe appreciates that in players – we’ve seen it with Wissa, we saw it with Anthony Elanga – he likes players eager to come.”

A move for Jackson is not certain, insiders have told TBR Football, but he matches the profile of striker Newcastle seek to succeed Isak.

Bailey stated: “I still believe there’s a very good chance Newcastle bring in Jackson. It will come down to the fee. Newcastle are very strict with player valuations. In that sense, I still see Nicolas Jackson as the top choice.

“I expect developments to speed up in the next week or so with Isak. But my feeling on Jackson remains – he reminds me of the period before Isak joined Newcastle, very similar attributes. He has Premier League experience and suits Howe’s needs.

“With Wissa, I think Newcastle could replace the combined goals of Isak and Wilson – and perhaps exceed them with Wissa and Jackson together. For now, I see Jackson as the leading option.”
