Liverpool’s Premier League campaign has started with three points, but that doesn’t mark the conclusion of their recruitment efforts.
The summer transfer window stays open until Monday, 1st September, giving the Reds plenty of time to finalise their roster for the 2025-26 season. Arne Slot’s side began their title defence versus Bournemouth on Friday with a 4-2 victory, though the game was marred by alleged racist abuse directed at Cherries attacker Antoine Semenyo.
NBefore the fixture, Liverpool sealed the £26m arrival of defender Giovanni Leoni, pushing the club’s summer outlay to £321million. That figure could rise above £450m should they secure leading target Alexander Isak for a record British fee. Because of this, outgoing transfers are just as vital in the final two weeks of the window.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe confirmed Alexander Isak won’t play against Aston Villa on Saturday – though stressed that the Liverpool-linked striker may still remain part of his squad. The 25-year-old Swede continues individual training while pushing for a switch to Anfield.
Even so, Howe is still optimistic the matter may improve and has not ruled out a possible return. “I want him playing. I want him training,” the Newcastle coach told the press on Friday.
“I’ve spoken with Alex but those details will stay between us.
“The situation remains the same. My attention has been on preparation, Aston Villa, and transfer business concerning new arrivals – that has taken all of my energy. Alex’s circumstances have been steady for some time, and that will stay unchanged.”
