Liverpool new castle

Arne Slot and Eddie Howe drop significant clues about Isak’s transfer to Liverpool, with deal almost done.

The window stays open until Monday, September 1, giving Liverpool plenty of time to shape their squad for the 2025-26 season. Arne Slot’s men started their title defence on Friday with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth, a game marred by claims of racist abuse toward Antoine Semenyo.

Before kickoff, Liverpool wrapped up the £26m signing of Giovanni Leoni, a centre-back, raising their total summer outlay to £321million. That figure might rise past £450m if they manage to sign Alexander Isak, their top target, for a record British fee. As a result, selling players will also be vital in the final weeks of the window.

 Howe confirms Isak status

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has confirmed Alexander Isak won’t play against Aston Villa on Saturday — though he insists the Liverpool-linked striker could yet stay. The 25-year-old continues individual training as he eyes a switch to Anfield.

Still, Howe is optimistic the matter may change and hasn’t ruled out a return to the fold. “I want him involved. I want him training,” Howe told the media on Friday morning.

“I’ve spoken with Alex, but I’ll keep those discussions private,” he added.

“There’s been no update. My attention is on training, Villa and our incomings — that’s where I’m focused. Alex’s situation has stayed the same for a while and that’s how it remains.”

 Bournemouth near £25m Doak transfer

Bournemouth are close to finalising a £25million deal to sign Liverpool winger Ben Doak. The 19-year-old Scotland international has received interest from a number of top-flight sides, but Bournemouth are now in pole position.

Several sources believe the transfer is nearly complete, with Doak left out of the matchday squad for the Bournemouth clash. The former Celtic wide man spent last season at Middlesbrough, where he featured 24 times before suffering a thigh injury.

 Slot demands more attacking depth

Arne Slot insists Liverpool must sign “at least” one more forward before the transfer window closes. This statement comes even after Hugo Ekitike joined for £79million, highlighting Liverpool’s ongoing interest in Alexander Isak.

Before facing Bournemouth, Slot told Sky Sports: “I view Hugo primarily as a No.9 who can also start from the left or play with another striker. We still need to sign one more attacker at minimum.
