Alexander Isak Blames Newcastle for Betrayed Trust in Ongoing Transfer Dispute

Alexander Isak has accused Newcastle United of breaking their word to him and stated that his relationship with the club is now beyond repair, insisting it’s best for all parties if he departs.

The forward attempted to push through a transfer before the window shut, saying the Carabao Cup holders were fully aware of his intentions and had twisted the meaning of private discussions.

Liverpool saw a £110m offer for Isak instantly rejected by Newcastle, who have consistently maintained the Sweden striker is not available, while the Premier League champions say they won’t be submitting another bid.

Isak hasn’t featured in any pre-season games for Newcastle or in Saturday’s goalless draw with Aston Villa, missing their Asia tour with what was described as a minor thigh issue, and has been training away from the main group.

But the striker blamed Newcastle for the relationship breakdown, posting on Instagram: “I’ve stayed silent for a long time while others spoke. That silence has let people share their own version, despite it not reflecting the real conversations behind the scenes.

“The truth is, promises were made and the club has known my stance for quite a while. Acting like these concerns are only just surfacing is dishonest.

“When trust is broken and promises aren’t kept, things can’t carry on. That’s my reality right now — and the reason why parting ways is the best solution for everyone, not just myself.”

Isak also claimed his Newcastle teammates have supported him during the drawn-out transfer saga this summer.

Manager Eddie Howe said on Saturday that the issue is out of his hands but urged for the situation to be resolved, suggesting Isak could still bring an end to the standoff.

Newcastle, meanwhile, kicked off the campaign without a striker, as Isak remains sidelined and efforts to sign Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Bryan Mbeumo all failed.

Isak, who netted 23 Premier League goals last season and earned a spot in the PFA Team of the Season, chose to skip Tuesday’s awards night.

He said: “It’s an honour to be recognised by fellow players. I want to thank my teammates and all at Newcastle who’ve supported me. I’m not attending tonight — with everything happening, it didn’t feel appropriate.”

Newcastle welcome Liverpool on Monday, while Arne Slot has said he’s keen to bring in one more attacking player this summer.
