Alexander Isak reacts swiftly with message as Liverpool situation unfolds

Supporters of Newcastle believe skipper Bruno Guimaraes has delivered a subtle response to Alexander Isak’s explosive message. On Tuesday evening, after being named in the PFA Team of the Year, Isak dramatically declared that his bond with the Tyneside club “cannot continue”.

The Swedish forward has been locked in a tense transfer saga this summer following his demand to pursue a fresh challenge. At 25, the striker is determined to secure a move to Liverpool, who already had an opening bid for him rejected.

Isak has been training separately from the rest of the squad after insisting he has played his final match for the club – and was missing for their Premier League curtain-raiser at Aston Villa.

He also chose not to attend the PFA Awards event in Manchester, where he was named alongside five Liverpool players in the 2024/25 Premier League XI. Moments after being included, he spoke for the first time in months, accusing Newcastle of breaking promises and ultimately betraying his trust.

“Firstly, I’d like to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me on this journey,” he wrote online.

“I’m not at the event tonight. With the situation ongoing, it didn’t feel right to be there. I’ve stayed quiet for a while as others have spoken. That silence allowed people to create their own narrative, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was truly agreed behind closed doors.

“We all know that commitments were made and the club has long been aware of my position. Pretending these problems are new is misleading. When promises collapse and trust is broken, the relationship can’t continue. That’s the reality right now and why change benefits everyone, not just myself.”

Yet only two minutes after his words were published, Guimaraes uploaded a picture of himself proudly wearing a Newcastle shirt. The Brazilian dismissed doubts over his own future earlier this year by signing a long-term contract and remains adored by fans.

One fan commented: “Five minutes after Isak’s outburst, our captain and hero Bruno Guimaraes shared this on his story.”

Another supporter reacted: “Bruno posting that exactly after Isak’s statement is absolutely brilliant.” And a further one added: “Isak posts this, Bruno responds five minutes later. Coincidence? Definitely not. My captain!”

Guimaraes featured in the Newcastle side that had to settle for a draw on the opening weekend, where despite controlling Aston Villa, they couldn’t find the net.

Supporters didn’t miss the irony, as they cheered their team loudly and sent a clear message to the absent Isak.

“I felt we deserved more and I’m pleased with our start,” Guimaraes said of the Villa Park draw. “It’s never simple to debut away to a well-drilled team. We fight together. Excited for next Monday at St James’ Park. Howay the lads.”

Meanwhile, Isak’s situation looks ever more unsustainable, with a crucial decision looming on his future before the window closes later this month.
