The ‘broken’ vow Newcastle United insiders believe Alexander Isak is referring to

Alexander Isak has declared that commitments were ‘broken’ as he finally addresses questions about his  Newcastle United future.

Much has been reported about Alexander Isak this summer, but the striker had stayed silent on the matter until Tuesday evening.

Isak issued a statement regarding his Newcastle United future, saying that the trust between him and the club has collapsed and that the best solution for all parties is for him to depart.

In response, Newcastle released their own statement concerning Isak. They insisted that no commitments were given, and that the forward will be brought back into the squad when deemed ready.

Most significantly, the club stressed that they have no plans to sell the 25-year-old during this transfer window.

But what exactly are the ‘assurances’ that Isak claims were broken? That is the major uncertainty for Newcastle United.

According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail on X, the feeling is that Isak is alluding to being promised a new and upgraded deal by Amanda Staveley in early 2024, only for Paul Mitchell to reverse that stance once he arrived that summer.

Just days after Mitchell was appointed sporting director, Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi exited St James’ Park. They sold their stake and ended their involvement with Newcastle United.

Upon their departure, Mitchell’s view on Isak was that he already had a contract running until 2028 and remained among the club’s top earners. As such, a new deal on improved terms was not considered essential for a club already under PSR constraints.

The expectation was that fresh terms would be handled this summer, but Newcastle were stunned by Isak’s salary demands. Geordie Boot Boys report that the Swedish forward wanted to earn £300,000 per week at St James’ Park, leaving officials shocked.

In their statement, Newcastle United underlined that there is still a path back for Isak. They emphasised that he will be ‘welcomed back’ when he is prepared, keeping the door open for him to feature for the club once again.
