Newcastle United have raised their bid for Yoane Wissa to £35 million, with additional add-ons included in the offer.
Newcastle United submitted an improved proposal valued at £35million plus add-ons for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa on Wednesday.
Brentford had already turned down an opening offer of £30m, with the club rating Wissa nearer to £50m. The striker, who netted 20 goals in all competitions last season, has been pressing for a transfer and awaited updates from the Bees’ training base while both clubs stay in direct discussions.
.The 28-year-old has removed all Brentford-related content from his social media pages, further highlighting his desire to depart.
Wissa was excluded from the squad for the 3–1 loss to Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend and has been working away from the main group. The attacker believes the club agreed a year ago to let him move this summer and expects that commitment to be honoured.
Brentford’s position has been complicated by their transfer dealings. Bryan Mbeumo joined Manchester United for £71m, but the £42.5m signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth was seen as the crucial addition for a possible Wissa exit, although that has yet to happen.
For Newcastle, the search for a striker has become urgent, to say the least. Callum Wilson departed following his contract expiry, while Alexander Isak’s strike and public row with the club have left Eddie Howe lacking attacking choices. Liverpool had a £110m offer rejected for Isak earlier this month, and Newcastle maintain that no conditions for his departure have been fulfilled.
If the Wissa transfer fails to go through, it could have significant consequences for Isak’s future, with Newcastle refusing to approve his sale until two replacements are secured.
