Ahead of Newcastle United’s clash with Liverpool, Howe confirmed the 26-year-old has trained ‘really well’ and is ‘looking sharp’ going into Monday night’s fixture at St James’ Park.
“Joe trained Tuesday and Wednesday,” he said.
“Short session on Tuesday, longer one on Wednesday. He did very well. Fantastic to see him back sooner than expected.
“When he went down in the match [against Team K League], I feared he’d be sidelined longer. It didn’t appear a good injury with the way he collapsed.
“Credit to him. [He is] back fit and looking sharp.”
Willock’s comeback is perfectly timed, as the Magpies lacked attacking options off the bench in their meeting with Aston Villa last weekend.
It is equally vital for Willock, since the midfielder can ill-afford another extended absence considering his injury struggles across the past few seasons.
Willock isn’t the only midfielder who could feature for Newcastle United on Monday evening.
Jacob Ramsey is also in line for his Toon debut after his move from Aston Villa.
Howe confirmed that the 24-year-old is fit to face Liverpool, noting the summer signing has impressed quickly in training.
Howe stated: “He’ll be available. We’ve still got sessions left before the game but he’s in a good rhythm and has looked outstanding in his first days. Very good technically, extremely smart, and I think he’ll bring a lot. He has special qualities.”
Ramsey is unlikely to start for Newcastle, as the midfield trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton are expected to remain intact.
Elsewhere, Anthony Gordon is tipped to start up front for the second straight match. With Isak sidelined and no striker signed, the 24-year-old must lead the attack against the club he nearly joined a year ago.
