Newcastle Suffer Setback in Yoane Wissa Pursuit After New Footage Emerges”

Yoane Wissa could be in line for a surprise comeback with Brentford after recent training footage hinted at his return.

The forward was absent from the Bees’ squad for their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Even so, he has been back working with Keith Andrews’ squad over the past few days.

Brentford welcome Aston Villa on Saturday in their second league outing of the new campaign.

Clips posted by the club on Thursday showed Wissa taking part in training ahead of the clash.

The 28-year-old last appeared for Brentford on the final day of last season, missing the entirety of pre-season games.

Still, he was included in a training video this week, which featured him striking at goal.

The footage was shared with the caption: “All eyes on Villa.”

All summer long, Wissa has been pushing for an exit from the Gtech Community Stadium.

Newcastle remain keen on the DR Congo star but have not matched Brentford’s demands.

The Bees are holding firm on their £50m price tag if Wissa is to depart.

The forward also hinted at his stance on social media by unfollowing the club’s official pages.

Now in the last year of his deal, he risks leaving on a free once this season ends.

Andrews spoke on Wissa’s future before the Forest defeat on Sunday.

He made clear the striker would not be involved after his disrupted summer preparations.

The new Brentford boss explained: “I’m very clear on Yoane’s situation. I want him here as part of my squad.

“I see him playing a role going forward, but I respect where he’s at.

“We have a good understanding, and that won’t change, but I must focus on players ready for the weekend — and Yoane isn’t there yet.”

Andrews took over as Brentford manager in June on a three-year contract after Thomas Frank departed for Tottenham.
