Kelly Stafford Breaks Down Over Daughter’s Behavior: ‘I Don’t Know Her Anymore’

“One of my girls has been really, really tough for me. For Matthew too. She’s acting like someone I don’t even recognize. I’m trying to keep it calm right now,” Kelly admitted, noting that her daughter’s issues have gone beyond home life and “carried into” sports, where she has been “disrespecting coaches, refusing to listen, giving attitude, and walking away mid-conversation.”

Kelly recalled telling her daughter she wouldn’t be allowed at a cookout if she kept misbehaving. The morning of the gathering, Kelly overheard a harsh exchange between two of her girls.

“Tyler looks at her and said, ‘Wow, you look really pretty in that outfit.’ So sweet. And [my other daughter] glanced at her, sized her up and down, and replied, ‘You look gross,’” Kelly shared.

Kelly sent her upstairs while the rest of the family went to the cookout. She and her daughter then took a long walk to and from the school, 30 minutes each way. On the way home, Kelly tried to get through with a heartfelt talk, and both became emotional.

“I said, ‘I have done it all. I’ve sat near your room. I’ve taken things away. I’ve spoken to you like the young lady you’re becoming. Nothing works. I’m drained.’ And I told her, ‘It’s not fair to your sisters that I spend all of my energy on you every single day because of these behaviors,’” she explained. “‘You’re creating problems. I don’t know if it’s for attention. Just tell me, do you need more of me?’”

Kelly said her daughter broke down in tears, confessing, “I don’t know why I’m so bad.”

Back at home, Kelly warned her that if she misbehaved again, she’d walk both ways to school to think about her actions. Days later it happened again, and Kelly kept her word — though it devastated her.

“I sobbed the whole f***ing time she was walking home. Yeah. And her sisters cried when I left her, but I was just lost,” she admitted through tears. “And maybe it’s because I compare her to the others — they’re so sweet and kind and at least try to behave. People say, ‘Oh, one child always rebels. One will stray.’ … I don’t believe that. And I refuse to let it happen.”

Winchester comforted Kelly, saying she and Matthew, 37, are “fantastic” parents who are “doing their best.”

“So dry your tears, kiddo. It’ll all work out. We’re in this together,” he assured her.
