Transfer deadline day has usually been low-key on Tyneside in recent years – but this time it could not be more dramatic, with THREE major transfers simultaneously unfolding.

Alexander Isak is on Merseyside to complete a £130m switch to Liverpool, while Yoane Wissa is in Newcastle undergoing medical tests before sealing a £50m-plus transfer from Brentford.

Yet the shock development on Monday lunchtime surrounded Will Osula, as Craig Hope revealed that Eintracht Frankfurt are now ‘close’ to securing the Newcastle attacker for £30m.

Another dramatic turn followed, with the North East journalist confirming Aston Villa had also struck an agreement with Newcastle – but UEFA financial restrictions blocked the deal.

That setback clears the way for Osula’s move to the Bundesliga club to be finalised, where he could ironically succeed Hugo Ekitike, a past Magpies target now playing at Liverpool.
