Alexander Isak seen with Newcastle ace shortly after completing £130m Liverpool move

Just hours after sealing a £130million record-breaking move to Liverpool from Newcastle United, Isak departed to link up with the Sweden national team in Stockholm.

Although he has not played competitive football since May, the striker has still been included in the Sweden squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo.

Isak forced the issue at Newcastle by going on strike and refusing to play, a decision that eventually pushed through his transfer to Liverpool.

Despite training alone and missing over a month of action, Isak was still handed a call-up to the Sweden team based purely on his standing.

Sweden coach and ex-Newcastle forward Jon Dahl Tomasson defended the decision as his players assembled for international duty.

He explained: “I spoke to Alex yesterday and also this morning. We are expecting him today. He is highly professional with the right mentality.

“He is calm and focused. We have no concerns. He’s not fully ready for 90 minutes, but he can certainly change the game.”

The day after departing Newcastle, Isak was pictured in Stockholm for international duty alongside former teammate Emil Krafth.

Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga also arrived to link up with Sweden for the important World Cup qualifying fixtures this week.

Krafth has yet to feature for Newcastle this campaign and was only named on the bench against Aston Villa and Leeds United.

This latest call-up marks the defender’s return to the national setup after previously being overlooked.

It remains to be seen what, if anything, Isak and Krafth discussed upon quickly linking up on international duty once again.

Although several Newcastle players were upset by Isak’s exit, Krafth showed backing by liking his Instagram post confirming the Liverpool transfer.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website after signing, Isak said: “It’s been a long road to arrive here. I’m thrilled to join this club, its team and what it represents. I’m truly proud and eager to start.

“I’m relieved it’s finished and now I can focus on the work. I look forward to meeting my teammates, the fans, and stepping onto the pitch.

“I believe I can contribute a lot and also improve. I’m a striker, but I aim to give the team goals and much more than only that.

“My ambition is to win everything. Yes, it’s that simple.”
