Troy Deeney believes Arne Slot will offload £34m Liverpool star and overhaul his system

Alexander Isak sealed a record-breaking British transfer on deadline day, while Florian Wirtz had already been added to the squad earlier in the window.

On the flip side, Liverpool also said goodbye to big names such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah and Darwin Nunez.

It’s clearly a transitional spell for the Reds, and on The Sports Agents Podcast, Troy Deeney suggested that a tactical shake-up could soon take place at Liverpool.

Deeney discussed Slot’s potential approach and a possible switch in system at Anfield.

Although Marc Guehi didn’t end up joining Liverpool, he is still admired, and Deeney thinks the Reds might adopt a 5-3-2 shape and part ways with Mohamed Salah if Guehi were to arrive.

“If they had secured Guehi, I could imagine them moving to a 5-3-2 next season, and maybe letting Salah go. They’ve recruited two central defenders, which hints they want to line up with three,” Deeney explained.

“They’ve got wing-backs in Frimpong and Kerkez, who thrive going forward. The midfield is shaped to use a creator, which is why Wirtz came in. And then you’d have two strikers together.

“So it looks like they’re preparing for that.”

With Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike now available, two up front could be perfect for Slot, while Salah is slowly reaching the latter stages of his career.

The £34m forward hasn’t begun the campaign strongly, and by summer Liverpool may decide to cash in on the veteran winger to further develop the squad.

This squad has the makings to dominate the league without Salah involved, and how Slot reshapes the team will be fascinating, since at 33 Liverpool must now prepare for the post-Salah era.
