J.J. McCarthy Shines in Return vs. Lions, Earns Praise From Tom Brady

The Vikings signal-caller made his return on Sunday after missing five games due to a high ankle sprain.

J.J. McCarthy stepped back onto the field against the Lions following a five-game absence with a high ankle injury, and he certainly made an impact. In just his third NFL start, the quarterback helped lead Minnesota to a 27-24 victory over a divisional rival.

Calling the game was fellow Michigan alum Tom Brady, who was highly impressed with McCarthy’s display. In the third quarter, with the Vikings leading 24-14, the seven-time Super Bowl champion offered praise for the young QB.

“Outside of the one pass behind [Jalen] Nailor that resulted in an interception, there’s a lot to like from what I’m seeing today,” Brady said. “Accurate throws, smart decisions, knowing when to throw the ball away. He’s definitely giving this team the boost it needed in a very challenging environment.”

McCarthy ended the game with 143 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception on 14-of-25 attempts, posting an 82.6 passer rating. While not flawless, his performance earned commendation from the G.O.A.T.

The Vikings, now 4-4, will look to build on this momentum when they face the Ravens next Sunday.
