The Detroit Lions are riding a four-game winning streak and boast one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. Sitting at 4-1 entering Week 6 is reason enough to celebrate, yet it’s notable that this success has come without wide receiver Jameson Williams being a key factor.
While the coaching staff has praised Williams’ growth and dedication during his gradual start, the receiver’s latest remarks hinted that he might be concealing his real emotions.
“I don’t got nothing to say about that, really. It’s nothing to say about it,” Williams said when asked about fans expressing concern over his attitude “It’s like, we go out and we win. It is what it is. We win. I don’t really wanna say too much or speak on it.”
Lions WR Jameson Williams Appears to Mask His True Feelings
Judging from his comments, Williams seems unsatisfied with how his season has unfolded so far but refrains from voicing frustration publicly. No wideout enjoys being underused, and that’s been true for Detroit’s WR2, whose tone subtly reflects his discontent.
Through five weeks, Williams has 11 receptions for 223 yards and one touchdown. An impressive 108 of those yards came in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears, leaving him under 43 receiving yards in four of the five contests. At this pace, he’s projected to finish with a 37-758-3 stat line across 17 games.
Given that the Alabama standout set career highs last season with 58 catches, 91 targets, 1,001 yards, and seven touchdowns, his 2025 output is a noticeable regression. The slump is even more concerning after the Lions rewarded the 24-year-old speedster with a three-year, $83 million contract extension in September, locking him in through the 2029 campaign.
Williams remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous deep threats, which often forces opposing defenses into two-high safety coverages to prevent big plays. While this hasn’t boosted his personal numbers, Detroit’s offense hasn’t suffered at all.
The Lions currently rank sixth in total yards (365.0), 12th in passing (230.2), and first in scoring (34.8). They’ve scored 34 or more points in four straight matchups, but finding a way to increase Williams’ involvement remains crucial. Hopefully, head coach Dan Campbell and his staff craft a plan to unlock him before this weekend’s showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.
