Jared Goff has now played 69 games with the Lions, matching the 69 he played with the Rams. He says there’s no question anymore which franchise he’ll be remembered with most in his career.
Goff admitted he didn’t realize the total was the same until a reporter mentioned it after Sunday’s game, but once he learned of it he recognized it as a meaningful career marker.
“When I heard that in my radio spot earlier this week, I thought, wow, that’s pretty cool,” Goff said. “I really feel like I’ve become a Lion in my career, and when I look back it’ll be mostly Detroit. Hopefully it becomes even more lopsided as time goes on. It’s been an enjoyable ride here, fun to grow within this city, and to see it flip this way is special.”
The 30-year-old quarterback believes he still has plenty of years left with the Lions.
“Hopefully for a long while. Hard to predict, but I’d say quite a while,” Goff said when asked how long he expects to remain in Detroit.
Goff’s contract runs through 2028, but with his cap hit set to spike to $69.6 million next year, he and the Lions could look at restructuring in 2026 while adding more years to his deal. He’s likely to play well beyond 69 more games wearing Detroit’s colors.
