Kelly Stafford Explains Why She Refuses to Raise “Spoiled Rotten Brats”

Kelly Stafford, the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has made it clear that money will not define how she raises her children.

During an appearance on the Sunday Sports Club podcast on August 31, the Morning After podcast host reflected on her life, marriage, and parenting philosophy, acknowledging the privileges that come with her husband’s NFL success—but stressing that wealth isn’t something she wants her children to rely on.

“I am very, very blessed to have an incredible husband who supports me nonstop,” Kelly said. “And very blessed—financially—to be able to do certain things and afford certain luxuries in this life.”

Still, Kelly emphasized that personal independence matters to her.

“I still want to prove to myself that I do not need any of that,” she added.

Teaching Values Over Privilege

Raising grounded children is a top priority for Kelly and Matthew Stafford, who share four daughters: Sawyer and Chandler (8), Hunter (7), and Tyler (5).

Kelly admitted that while it would be easy to give her children everything they ask for, that’s not the kind of upbringing she wants for them.

“I’m like, ‘You’re not going to grow up spoiled rotten brats. I won’t raise that. I can’t do that,’” she said. “It’s hard because it could be easy to get them whatever they wanted.”

Both Kelly and Matthew grew up without extreme wealth, and she explained that parenting in a financially comfortable environment has been a learning experience.

“My husband didn’t grow up in this type of situation either, so raising kids with it is a learning process,” Kelly shared. “And we learn as we go.”

Kelly Stafford Opens Up About Parenting Challenges

Kelly has never shied away from being honest about motherhood. In June, she revealed on her Morning After podcast that she occasionally uses cannabis gummies to help manage stress at home.

“Sometimes I feel like gummies make me a better parent,” Kelly said. “They calm me down. It’s like the glass of wine.”

While she admitted feeling “a little guilt” at times, she maintained that her children’s well-being always comes first.

“As long as they’re in bed, fed and happy and feel loved, who cares how they get there?” she explained. “Just get them there.”

Staying Grounded in an NFL Lifestyle

Despite their high-profile lifestyle, Kelly and Matthew Stafford remain committed to raising their daughters with strong values, humility, and perspective—proving that wealth doesn’t have to mean entitlement.
