Kelly Stafford is being candid about the reality of balancing motherhood with football life.
On the Tuesday, September 23, episode of her “The Morning After” podcast, the 35-year-old wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford discussed the “nightmare” of taking their four daughters to Philadelphia for the Rams’ battle against the Eagles this past weekend.
The struggle began before they even left for the airport on Saturday, September 20, because Kelly and Matthew’s girls, 8-year-old twins Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter, 7, and Tyler, 5, all had soccer matches.
“We get to the airport and I need to shower all of them … so much hair when you’ve got four girls,” Kelly said, adding that just the pre-flight routine was draining.
“It clogs the drains,” she went on. “It causes every kind of hassle. And it requires a f*** load of time.”
The frustration didn’t stop once the group landed. Kelly shared that she had booked a car service, double-checking “several times” that a large enough vehicle would be there for her family and their luggage. But when the driver pulled up, he wasn’t prepared.
“He says, ‘Wait, all of them are yours?’ I respond, ‘Yes, they’re all in Rams gear, obviously they’re mine,’” Kelly recalled. “Then he says, ‘Well, I don’t have a car that big.’ What? That’s something you hear from Uber, not a car service.”
Matters only worsened when Kelly and the girls eventually got inside the car.
“I tell him to head to Raising Cane’s,” Kelly explained. “It shows five minutes away on my phone. Suddenly, I look down, and it’s 20 minutes away. I’m like, ‘Sir, where exactly are we?’”
She continued, “I’m a mom with four daughters in the backseat, in an unfamiliar city. And I’m staring out the window thinking, why are we now 30 minutes away?”
Kelly said she called her mom and kept her on the line until they safely got redirected.
Even with the chaos, Kelly said she still had a great time at Lincoln Financial Field. She even bumped into former Eagles star Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie Kelce, after the matchup.
“We got to greet them,” Kelly said. “Overall, it was awesome. The finish stung, but the experience was memorable and my girls absolutely enjoyed it.”
When it came to Philly’s famously passionate fans, Kelly admitted they weren’t nearly as hostile as people claim.
“I didn’t run into any trouble,” she shared. “Even when we were ahead, I figured they might chirp at us. Honestly, the only thing was when Matthew threw that pick on the opening drive—some fans celebrated and shouted about it. But that was all, and it was brief.”
Although the Rams fell short — the Eagles pulled out a 33-26 win after blocking a last-second field goal — Kelly said her daughters handled everything like pros.
“I don’t always give them enough credit,” she confessed. “They were incredible the whole way, despite the hiccups and me being stressed out.”
The Rams next return Sunday, September 28, when they host the Indianapolis Colts, while the Eagles hit the road to Tampa Bay that same day to play the Buccaneers.
