Kelly Stafford Reveals She’s Pausing Podcast to Focus on Mental Health

On the Oct. 2 installment of her The Morning After podcast, the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback disclosed she would be stepping back temporarily from her well-known show.

Kelly Stafford confirmed she was taking time away from her podcast during the most recent episode of The Morning After on Oct. 2.

Explaining her decision as tied to her mental health and uncertainty about the podcast’s future direction, Kelly said she expected the hiatus would last around a month.

She added that once she returns, she would be in a better position to give listeners an update on the long-term future of the program.

Kelly Stafford is stepping aside for her mental well-being.

On the Oct. 2 episode of The Morning After, the wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford said she would pause her role as host, pointing to her mental health as part of the reason.

The 36-year-old mother of four shared her plans on the latest recording, which included guests Claire Kittle and Kristin Juszcyzk, estimating she would be off the mic for close to a month.

“I’ve been struggling with where I see this going,” she admitted. “I obviously have four daughters and a husband, and this show is like another one of my kids, but not as important as them.”

“It’s been taking up more time than I want it to,” Kelly admitted. “So, Kyra and I are going to use this break to brainstorm and figure out the direction to take next.”

Kelly reminded listeners why she first started the show: to “build community, one that embraces mistakes and supports each other instead of criticizing.”

“I think we can all rely on one another now,” she continued. “I leaned on you, I hope you leaned on this show, whether for laughter or to see that life isn’t perfect and doesn’t have to be.”

“For the moment, just for the sake of my mental health and because it’s midseason, there are changes happening,” Kelly said. “I think I need to step back and reassess things. This isn’t the end. I simply need time.”

She even admitted that her choice might be unexpected for her husband, saying, “I’m sure this news will surprise him too.”

After her month-long pause, Kelly said she would come back to update fans on where the podcast would go in the future.

Only a week earlier, Kelly had laughed about her husband’s low-blow injury during his Sept. 21 NFL matchup.

When the Los Angeles Rams faced the Philadelphia Eagles that Sunday, Matthew Stafford took a hard hit in the third quarter — alarming viewers and his wife Kelly as well.

“I had to take a deep breath when Matthew was slow to rise after that play,” she recalled on last week’s edition of The Morning After.

Since she was in the stadium and couldn’t watch the replay, she said she texted friends at home for a better look at what happened.

“He went back into the game, thankfully, and afterward I asked, ‘What was wrong, are you okay?’ ” Kelly remembered. “He said, ‘Yeah, I just got my nuts smashed.’ ”

Kelly and Matthew, who wed in 2015, raise four daughters together: 8-year-old twins Sawyer and Chandler, 7-year-old Hunter, and 5-year-old Tyler.

On Instagram, Kelly often posts glimpses of family life — such as pictures of her daughters heading to their first days of school last month.
