Lions Coach Dan Campbell Unleashes Shocking Update Ahead of Week 5

The Detroit Lions dominated the Cleveland Browns last weekend, which speaks volumes about this squad, since the Browns entered the matchup holding the No. 1 defense ranking in the league by Fox Sports and were widely considered the top defensive unit. Given that Fox had Detroit’s defense at No. 14 and the team dismantled Cleveland, maybe that ranking gets adjusted soon.

Either way, the Lions sit at 3-1 and prepare for a contest against the 2-2 Bengals this Sunday, October 5. Even though Detroit should be the favorite, this one is on the road, so the team must lock in and deliver to win. Cincinnati just suffered a heavy loss to the Broncos, meaning they’re desperate for a bounce-back.

Keeping the roster healthy remains one of the most critical elements for success in the NFL. So how are the Lions handling injuries right now? Head coach Dan Campbell has provided some encouraging news on their current situation.

Detroit Lions Injury Update is Promising for Week 5

Fans have been waiting to find out how Detroit cornerbacks D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold are progressing since both went down with injuries against Cleveland. Campbell has now given word on their condition, and the news is mostly positive.

Starting with Reed, Campbell explained that he will miss some time but avoided a season-ending issue. “He’s going to be down a while, but the positive is it’s not a season-ender,” Campbell explained. “We’ll get him back at some point, it looks like.”

The coach didn’t confirm if Reed would be placed on injured reserve but hinted a return may come in around four weeks. “Could be, could be. It’ll be close, I think. It should be in that range,” the longtime Metallica fan noted. That’s a significant sign he could return sooner than expected.

As for Arnold, Campbell implied the decision hinges on whether he’ll play this weekend, but otherwise, he should be fine. “I don’t think this is serious, but the question is: Is he ready this week?” Campbell said. “That’s really the decision. And if not this week, he’ll definitely be back by next.”

Dan Campbell Shows Belief in Lions’ Depth Players

The head coach also expressed faith in the team’s reserves if needed for extended time. “Our backups get real work. They practice with our speed, our plays,” he emphasized. “They’re always expected to jump in, and we won’t skip a beat.”

He added, “They already know the deal. That’s what we demand here, and that’s our bar. Whether it’s Dorse(y) or Rock, they’ll be ready. They’ll step in, and nothing changes. That’s what we build for.”

Meanwhile, the Bengals are currently missing franchise quarterback Joe Burrow, and rumors suggest they may explore a move before the trade deadline in November. Their primary rumored target is Trey Hendrickson. In a Friday, September 26 report, Nick Halden of Detroit Jock City wrote that “no pass rusher on the market, trade or free agent, carries the same impact as Hendrickson.”

It’s a wild scenario to think Cincinnati would actually deal Hendrickson right now, but stranger things have happened. For now, though, he remains lined up against the Lions.
