Lions Make Huge Playoff Move, Re-Sign 91-Game Cornerback and Waive Tight End

The Detroit Lions have made another roster adjustment, bringing back a familiar face to help stabilize their secondary. On Tuesday afternoon, the team officially signed cornerback Arthur Maulet, marking his return to the active roster after he was previously released in late November.

Maulet appeared in six games for Detroit earlier this season before being waived. During that stretch, he recorded 14 total tackles and added an interception, showing his ability to contribute both in coverage and run support. His familiarity with the Lions’ defensive system made him a natural candidate for a quick return as the team looks to reinforce its defensive backfield.

Now in his veteran years, Maulet brings a wealth of experience to the Lions. Over the course of his NFL career, he has played in 85 games across multiple teams, including stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and New Orleans Saints. That experience gives Detroit a versatile defender who can help in both the slot and on the outside, while also providing veteran leadership in a young secondary.

Detroit’s need in the defensive backfield has grown in recent days. The team suffered a major blow last week when safety Brian Branch was lost for the season after tearing his Achilles. In addition, the Lions are currently managing injuries to starting safety Kerby Joseph and reserve defensive back Thomas Harper, putting further strain on the unit’s depth.

To make room for Maulet, the Lions waived tight end Ross Dwelley in a corresponding roster move. Dwelley had seen limited opportunities this season, appearing in 11 games and recording two receptions for 11 yards. His departure opens a spot for much-needed defensive reinforcement as the Lions push through the critical stretch of the season.
