The Lions earned a hard-fought 38–30 win over the Ravens on Monday night, proving once more to the NFL that they’re a legitimate contender in the NFC.
It was an impressive evening for Detroit’s offense, powered by a career-best outing from running back David Montgomery, who carried 12 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Naturally, it was also a strong night for Detroit’s offensive line, highlighted by a historic effort from right tackle Penei Sewell. The fifth-year standout set a Pro Football Focus record with the best single-game grade ever given to a lineman since the site began charting. He also produced the highest single-game PFF run-blocking grade of any player with at least 10 run-blocking snaps.
Sewell registered a remarkable 99.3 PFF run-blocking grade on his 37 rushing snaps. That score broke an 18-year-old benchmark set by former Vikings fullback Tony Richardson, who posted a 99.1 run-blocking grade in Week 13 of the 2007 season.
Sewell dominated the field on Monday night, and the Lions will certainly look for that level of play to continue as the offense develops its rhythm.
