Lions Player Receives NFL Discipline for Actions Against Bengals

At the moment, the Detroit Lions are setting their sights on Sunday’s road clash with the Kansas City Chiefs on October 12, refusing to get distracted by the past. Still, reflecting on recent results is a point of pride, as they’ve secured victories in four of their last five NFL matchups this season.

Their latest triumph came against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, October 5, finishing with a 37-24 win for Detroit. That improved the Lions’ record to 4-1, while the Chiefs sit at 2-3. Kansas City just suffered a surprising loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend, which means they’ll be hungry to bounce back — and Detroit must stay sharp.

Yet, glancing back at last weekend’s Lions game reveals some controversy. One Detroit player has now drawn the NFL’s attention and been hit with disciplinary action for his behavior during the Lions-Bengals matchup.

NFL Fines Detroit Lions Tight End

.Each week during the regular NFL season, the league issues fines to players based on incidents from the previous week. The NFL’s policy explains that such penalties exist “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.” Updated lists of fined players are released every Saturday afternoon.

In the Week 5 report, Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright was assessed an $11,883 fine for “unnecessary roughness,” specifically for “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing.”

During the contest, Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson recorded two sacks, and on one play, as Hendrickson chased quarterback Jared Goff, Wright appeared to attempt a trip. He avoided an in-game flag, but the NFL later issued the fine.

That money will benefit charity. According to the NFL, fines are directed to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “assist former players in need” and the NFL Foundation to “support athlete health, safety, and wellness at all levels, including youth football and community programs.”

Previewing the Detroit Lions vs. Kansas City Chiefs Primetime Game

The Lions-Chiefs matchup is set for prime time, making it one of the most anticipated games of the week. Many analysts slightly favor Jared Goff and the Lions, even with them playing on the road.

Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports predicts a Lions 31-27 victory. “The Lions have won four straight games since dropping their opener to Green Bay, giving them the NFL’s longest active win streak,” he wrote on Thursday, October 9. “Detroit is averaging 40.3 points per game during this stretch. Is anyone missing Ben Johnson? Absolutely not.”

Steven Taranto also forecasts a 31-27 Lions win. “Over the past few years, it seems the Lions are one of the few teams that haven’t feared the Chiefs’ dynasty,” he explained.

After falling to the Jaguars, the Chiefs appear vulnerable and uncertain — not unlike the A Perfect Circle song sharing that name — making this the ideal opportunity for Detroit to roar. Is it Sunday yet?
