The Detroit Lions finally got a bit of positive news regarding wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s status.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that early evaluations indicate St. Brown sustained a low-ankle sprain, which is far more favorable than a high-ankle sprain. Pelissero also noted that the star receiver is not expected to be placed on injured reserve and will instead be treated as week-to-week.
St. Brown was hurt in the first quarter of Detroit’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. The injury occurred when he was blocking and was inadvertently rolled up on by teammates Kayode Awosika and Trystan Colon.
Head coach Dan Campbell sounded cautiously hopeful afterward, implying that the injury doesn’t appear to be one that will keep St. Brown sidelined for an extended stretch.
“I don’t think this is something long, long-term,” Campbell said. “That’s the positive part. But it could still cost him a week or two, maybe less if things go our way.”
The Lions also benefit from a friendlier upcoming schedule. They face the Dallas Cowboys next Thursday in a key matchup, but after that contest, they’ll enjoy a mini-bye before traveling to Los Angeles for a crucial NFC meeting with the Rams. At the moment, that game sits more than two weeks — 16 days — on the horizon.
