The Detroit Lions continued restructuring their practice squad on Monday by adding a promising young wide receiver with a strong college résumé and a familiar connection to one of their recent draft picks. Detroit announced the signing of Andrew Armstrong, an undrafted rookie who originally joined the Miami Dolphins before being released at the end of the 2025 preseason.
Armstrong arrives in Detroit with plenty of upside. During his final season at Arkansas, he became one of the SEC’s most productive pass catchers, leading the Razorbacks with 78 receptions for 1,140 yards. His standout season also reunited him with a familiar face: Lions third-round pick Isaac TeSlaa, who was Armstrong’s teammate at Arkansas. The duo’s built-in chemistry could prove valuable as Detroit looks for depth at the receiver position.
To create room for Armstrong, the Lions released veteran offensive lineman Netane Muti, who had been serving as a depth piece on the practice squad.
With the Lions battling injuries at both wide receiver and tight end, adding a young, high-upside playmaker like Armstrong fits Detroit’s recent trend of developing talent through the practice squad. Armstrong may start as a developmental option, but the Lions have repeatedly shown a willingness to elevate players quickly when they prove themselves.
The signing not only strengthens Detroit’s practice-squad depth but also adds an intriguing offensive weapon who already shares chemistry with one of their rising rookies.
