The Detroit Lions appear to have avoided what could have been a major problem in the NFC North.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to trade star defensive end Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens in a blockbuster deal.
In exchange, the Raiders will receive first-round draft picks in both the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts, giving Las Vegas significant future assets. While the trade cannot be officially processed until next week, the agreement is reportedly already finalized.
For the Detroit Lions, the outcome could not have been much better.
Why the Trade Is Good News for Detroit
Before the deal was completed, many around the league believed the Chicago Bears were preparing a strong push to acquire Crosby.
Had that happened, the Lions would have been forced to face one of the NFL’s most dominant pass rushers twice every season inside the NFC North.
Instead, Crosby is heading to the AFC, removing a potential nightmare matchup for Detroit’s offensive line and quarterback.
Avoiding a division rival adding a player of Crosby’s caliber is a significant development as the Lions continue building a roster capable of competing for a Super Bowl.
One of the NFL’s Most Dominant Pass Rushers
Since entering the league with the Raiders, Crosby has become one of the NFL’s premier defensive players.
The five-time Pro Bowler has consistently ranked among the league leaders in several key defensive categories, including:
Sacks
Quarterback pressures
Tackles for loss
His relentless energy, high motor, and ability to disrupt opposing offenses have made him one of the most feared edge rushers in the NFL.
If the Bears had managed to land Crosby, the balance of power in the NFC North could have shifted dramatically.
Ravens Add a Defensive Superstar
Instead, the Ravens secure one of the league’s elite defenders as they continue building around their championship window.
Baltimore has long been known for constructing dominant defenses, and Crosby is expected to become a cornerstone of their pass rush moving forward.
Bottom Line
The Detroit Lions still face plenty of competition in the NFC North, but one major threat has been removed from the division.
Rather than battling Detroit twice a year, Maxx Crosby will now suit up for the Baltimore Ravens.
For the Lions, that outcome is about as good as it gets.
