The Detroit Lions are facing multiple key free-agent decisions this offseason, including the future of veteran cornerback Amik Robertson.
Robertson, who enjoyed a productive two-year run in Detroit, is now drawing interest from the New York Jets, according to multiple Jets insiders. The connection stems from Robertson’s relationship with former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who now leads the Jets’ defense.
Jets Reporters Link Amik Robertson to New York
SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes reported that Robertson fits the defensive profile Glenn values and could complement New York’s young secondary.
Hughes noted that while Robertson may not be a “marquee” free-agent signing, he mirrors the type of player Glenn previously developed in Detroit—similar to Brandon Stephens, who emerged as a contributor under Glenn in 2025. Robertson also posted a career-best 63.3 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus during the 2024 season, highlighting his growth as a reliable defender.
According to Hughes, the Jets view Stephens as a potential starter and are optimistic about Jarvis Brownlee in the slot. Adding Robertson would provide another versatile, competitive cornerback while the team searches for elite talent through the NFL Draft.
Insider Says Robertson Is a Name to Watch
The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt also identified Robertson as a free-agent target on a recent episode of Jets Final Drive.
Rosenblatt emphasized Robertson’s strong relationship with Glenn and described him as a tough, physical defender who fully buys into Glenn’s system. He added that while the Jets like Brownlee, they should not lock him into a starting role if they can upgrade the position with a player who already understands Glenn’s expectations.
Amik Robertson Career Stats and Background
Robertson entered the NFL in 2020 as a fourth-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders before signing with Detroit in 2024. Over his career, he has appeared in 86 games (35 starts) and recorded:
5 interceptions
7 forced fumbles
10 tackles for loss
35 pass deflections
2 sacks
213 total tackles
1 fumble recovery
What This Means for the Lions and Jets
If Robertson signs with New York, the Lions would lose a proven nickel corner with scheme versatility and leadership. For the Jets, he would represent a low-risk, system-friendly addition who already has the trust of their defensive coordinator.
With free agency approaching, Robertson is emerging as a realistic and logical target for the Jets—and a player Lions fans may soon see in green and white.
