Wolves are not actively pushing to offload their striker, but they would consider allowing the 25-year-old centre-forward to leave for a figure close to £70 million. Newcastle are in the market for attacking reinforcements following the exit of experienced forward Callum Wilson, who departed on a free transfer this summer to join West Ham United.

Doubts surrounding Alexander Isak’s long-term future have also heightened Newcastle’s urgency to secure another striker. Their bid for Yoane Wissa was turned down by Brentford, and now Jorgen Strand Larsen has become their top target, though the financial demand is proving problematic.

The question is whether Newcastle United should commit such a large outlay for Larsen. He netted 14 times last season, a respectable return, but £70 million seems excessive for his level of output.
