The NFL has officially announced disciplinary action stemming from the Detroit Lions’ Week 18 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
According to the NFL’s Gameday Accountability Report, Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was fined $17,389 for a hip-drop tackle on Bears rookie running back Kyle Monangai during the first quarter of the game. The play resulted in an unnecessary roughness penalty.
Despite the incident, the Lions defeated the Bears 19–16, and no additional fines were issued to players from either team. Across the league, 21 total fines were handed out for actions during Week 18.
Bears Shift Focus to Divisional Playoff Matchup vs. Packers
While the Week 18 loss was not how Chicago wanted to close the regular season, the Bears are now focused on their upcoming divisional playoff showdown against the Green Bay Packers.
Head coach Ben Johnson emphasized the significance of hosting postseason games at Soldier Field after winning the division.
“This was the vision from the beginning – to have some home playoff games at Soldier Field,” Johnson said. “That’s a huge credit to the guys. Now we’ve earned this opportunity, and we’ve got to make the most out of it.”
Caleb Williams Embraces the Big Moment
Second-year quarterback Caleb Williams is embracing the pressure of a playoff matchup against a division rival, stating he’s ready for the moment.
“I think I am built for these moments mentality-wise,” Williams said. “I’ve been in a bunch of big games and rival games before. I can provide a spark for this team and do whatever my team needs me to do.”
Williams will be tested against a tough Green Bay defense, making Chicago’s supporting cast especially important.
Bears Lean on Elite Offensive Line and Run Game
Chicago’s offensive line received major recognition when the NFL announced the 2025 AP All-Pro teams.
Joe Thuney: First-Team AP All-Pro (most votes among left guards)
Darnell Wright: Second-Team AP All-Pro (second-most votes among right tackles)
Behind that elite front, the Bears’ running back duo has flourished. Chicago finished third in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging 144.5 yards per game during the regular season.
Weather Could Favor Bears’ Ground Attack
With the Wild Card matchup expected to feature 20–30 mph wind gusts and temperatures around 33°F, the Bears are likely to lean heavily on their rushing attack.
Expect Kyle Monangai and D’Andre Swift to play a central role as Chicago looks to control the game on the ground and advance past Green Bay.
