NFL: Jahmyr Gibbs powers Detroit Lions past Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Seattle Seahawks top Houston Texans
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs burst through the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense for a spectacular 78-yard touchdown run.
Tampa Bay (5-2) was outgained by over 200 yards in the first half but trailed only 14-3, as Detroit committed an interception, a fumble, a turnover on downs, and Jake Bates missed a 54-yard field goal.
Chase McLaughlin connected from 53 yards to end the half, putting the Buccaneers on the board. Rookie Tez Johnson’s 22-yard touchdown catch to open the second half trimmed the deficit to five, but the Bucs had no answer for Gibbs.
On the next drive, Gibbs ripped off a 15-yard run and a 28-yard reception to set up his second touchdown, extending Detroit’s lead to 21-9 late in the third quarter.
The third-year back finished with a season-high 136 rushing yards on 17 carries and 82 receiving yards on three catches. He became the first NFL player since Chris Johnson in 2009 with at least 135 rushing yards, 80 receiving yards, and two rushing touchdowns in one game.
Bates later drilled a 58-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, banking it off an upright to seal a 24-9 Lions advantage.
Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield went 28-for-50 for 228 yards with one touchdown and one interception against a depleted Detroit defense. His incompletion in the end zone with 4:24 left ended Tampa Bay’s comeback hopes.
As a unit, we failed to execute enough plays,” Mayfield said. “We were behind the chains too often, and that let their front seven attack. It’s tough on the offensive line when that happens.”
Jaxon Smith-Njigba posted his league-leading fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Houston Texans 27-19 on Monday night.
Highlights from Week 7 between the Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks in the 2025 season.
Smith-Njigba, who entered the game leading the NFL in receiving yards, gave Seattle a 14-0 first-quarter lead with an 11-yard touchdown from Sam Darnold. He celebrated by dunking on the goalpost crossbar, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
He totaled eight receptions for 123 yards, becoming the second Seahawk ever with three consecutive 100-yard games. His five such performances this season tie for the second-most in team history.
Seattle’s first score came from RB Zach Charbonnet, who powered in from one yard out on the team’s second possession. That drive began with great field position after LB Uchenna Nwosu’s sack of C.J. Stroud for an 18-yard loss pinned Houston at its own one-yard line.
Houston’s first touchdown came midway through the third quarter when Darnold was strip-sacked in his own end zone, and Texans edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. recovered for a score, though the two-point try failed.
Charbonnet added a second touchdown late in the third, a two-yard rush, giving Seattle a 27-12 lead.
The Texans’ lone offensive touchdown came on a four-yard pass from Stroud to RB Woody Marks with 2:04 left in regulation. Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn hit two field goals as Houston’s two-game winning streak ended, dropping them to 2-4.
