Packers’ Defensive Backs Draw Strong Compliments From Bears Coach Ben Johnson Ahead of Week 14
As Chicago gets ready for its Week 14 showdown with Green Bay, head coach Ben Johnson is well aware of the challenge his team is walking into. The Packers have proven they can dictate a game on offense or defense.
Green Bay enters the week ranked 10th in scoring at 24.5 points per outing, while its defense has been one of the league’s best, allowing only 18.8 points per game—sixth-fewest in the NFL.
Bears’ Johnson impressed by Packers’ safety duo
During his media availability on Tuesday, Johnson—now in his first year coaching the Bears after previously coordinating Detroit’s offense—highlighted the strength of Green Bay’s secondary. Two members of the Packers’ defensive backfield in particular stood out to him.
“Probably the best pair of safeties we’ve gone up against this season,” Johnson said of Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams, via Dan Wiederer of The Athletic.
Despite Green Bay recording just six interceptions on the season, McKinney and Williams account for five of them. Williams leads the team with three picks, two of which have come over the last three games.
The Packers’ secondary will face a significant test against Chicago. Caleb Williams and the Bears enter the matchup ranked eighth in scoring at 26.1 points per game, leaning heavily on their rushing attack but still posing a serious threat through multiple avenues.
