The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bounce back with an important win against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football this week.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes delivered a clear message to his team ahead of the primetime battle at Arrowhead Stadium. Sitting at 2-3 after a 31-28 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football, the Chiefs face a 4-1 Lions team that leads the NFC North.

“They play extremely hard. They’ve got the mindset that they’re coming here to win,” Mahomes told reporters. “We’ve got to match that energy. It’s going to require our best football — offense, defense, and special teams… We’ll find a way to win.”

Fans will see Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, back at Arrowhead Stadium for the Week 6 showdown. Except for the season opener in Brazil, Brittany has attended every Chiefs game this year.

Last month, Brittany celebrated her husband reaching a remarkable NFL milestone. The 30-year-old quarterback became the youngest and quickest player in league history to throw 250 career touchdowns (116 games).

Just one day before the Lions-Chiefs matchup, the mother of three shifted her focus to the NWSL’s Kansas City Current. The former soccer player is a founding co-owner of the franchise, alongside Chris and Angie Long. Her husband joined as a co-owner in January 2023.

The Mahomes family’s investment in the KC Current continues to deliver, as the team currently ranks No. 1 in the league. During a game against NY/NJ Gotham FC on Saturday, October 11, Brittany sat near the front row as the Current made NWSL history by earning the most points in a single season (62 points).

After a 2-0 win — their 17th straight victory — the Current also became the first team to record 20 league wins in one season. With two regular-season games still left, Brittany posted on her Instagram Story, “LET’S GOOOOO @kccurrent.”

Goalkeeper Lorena Silver set a new NWSL record for most shutouts in one season (14). Current head coach Vlatko Andonovski expressed immense pride in his squad. “Huge credit to the players,” Andonovski told The Kansas City Star. “They’re the ones who perform on the field. But so many people work behind the scenes.

“There’s a large support group and staff working tirelessly every day because they want to give these players every chance to succeed.”

Earlier this season, the Current became the earliest team to clinch the NWSL Shield by percentage of games played.

Four years after debuting in the 2021 season, the KC Current have become the second-most valuable team in the NWSL. Even as one of the league’s smallest market franchises, the Current boast the second-highest valuation at $275 million.

After the grand opening of CPKC Stadium — the first world-class arena built primarily for a women’s team — Forbes reported that the KC Current led the league in 2024 revenue, generating $36 million.

Over the summer, the Longs revealed a $52 million plan to expand the organization’s Riverside, Missouri, facilities with a three-tier project. Construction began in July on Riverside Stadium, which will include a 35,000-square-foot performance center and expanded training pitches.
