WOODLAND HILLS, CA — The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for a challenging ten-day stretch, facing two playoff-contending teams: the Detroit Lions on Sunday, followed by a trip to take on the Seattle Seahawks in a critical NFC West matchup.
McVay on the Demanding Schedule
When asked Monday about preparing for two games in five days, head coach Sean McVay noted that the team has navigated similar scenarios earlier this season. After their week three loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams bounced back with a physical victory over the Indianapolis Colts, only to fall in a narrow overtime defeat to the San Francisco 49ers on a Thursday night.
McVay explained that while the team keeps the entire season in perspective, his immediate attention is on the current opponent.
“Not necessarily,” McVay said. “At this point in the season, especially in the final quarter, you have to adjust based on performance metrics and numbers. If it means reducing physical load, that can affect how we approach practice from Wednesday through Friday. So it’s a mix of both—considering the time of year and the Thursday game. But make no mistake, our main focus is preparing thoroughly for the Lions this week.”
Looking Ahead
Despite the upcoming tough stretch, the Rams have experience handling such situations. Over the past two seasons, they’ve either secured playoff spots or achieved major wins on short weeks that helped push them into the postseason.
There’s also potential upside: if Seattle loses this week and the Rams win, L.A. could clinch the NFC West.
Following the Seahawks game, the Rams will enjoy a “mini-bye,” as their next game won’t be until the following Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons. The regular season will conclude at home, allowing the team to potentially rest key players. If the Rams can win both upcoming matchups, they could gain over 20 days to recover and prepare for the playoffs.
