Random Ramsdom: No Matthew Stafford Thanksgiving blues for us this year

Joe Burrow gets credit for being candid and entertaining, and he recently shared a humorous memory from his Thanksgiving traditions as a kid: sitting down after the big meal and tuning in to watch Detroit Lions football — and, of course, their longtime quarterback, Matthew Stafford.

Burrow joked that his routine involved stuffing himself with food, sinking into the couch, and watching Stafford put up huge numbers. He added with a grin that Stafford and the Lions would “probably lose,” but he still loved watching the games.

Personally, I found the comment lighthearted and funny. Some people might interpret it as a dig at Stafford, but Burrow clearly meant it in good fun. You can check out the clip and decide for yourself — that’s your right.

And honestly, Burrow is well aware that Stafford beat him in a Super Bowl. With that in mind, it’s hard to treat his comment as anything more than a playful observation.

As for me, I’m genuinely grateful for how this Rams season has unfolded so far. The team has battled through adversity, delivered plenty of exciting — and occasionally nerve-wracking — football, and given fans plenty to enjoy. On this holiday, I’m thankful for that.

I’m also grateful for everyone who stops by to read, watch, comment, or simply lurk. You all make this community what it is.

Wishing every one of you a fantastic holiday — enjoy your Thanksgiving and the full slate of football!

Thanks, as always, for supporting Turf Show Times.

Burrow expanded on his Thanksgiving memories by saying:
“Like a lot of kids, you eat with your family, then park yourself on the couch. Football is usually the only thing on. Back then it was always the Lions. I’d watch Matthew Stafford throw for 300 or 400 yards to Calvin Johnson and then see them probably lose. But it was still fun.”

Elsewhere around the league:
The NFC’s hottest team, the Los Angeles Rams, travel to Charlotte for a Sunday afternoon showdown with the Carolina Panthers. After crushing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34–7, the Rams have stacked six consecutive wins and now sit atop the NFC as the No. 1 seed. Their dominant stretch has pushed their Super Bowl odds to +425, and Matthew Stafford has become the frontrunner for league MVP at -235.

And the schedule just got a bit easier. The Panthers will be without standout safety Tre’Von Moehrig, who was suspended for one game without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct after appearing to deliver a low hit to 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings during Carolina’s Week 12 loss.
