Roster Shakeup: Detroit Lions Elevate Two Players, Place Safety on IR Ahead of Week 15 vs. Rams
The Detroit Lions made several key roster moves as they prepare for their Week 15 road game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The team elevated safety Erick Hallett and tight end Giovanni Ricci from the practice squad while activating tight end Shane Zylstra. At the same time, safety Brian Branch was placed on injured reserve, further depleting Detroit’s secondary. Earlier in the week, Kerby Joseph was ruled out, and safeties Thomas Harper and offensive lineman Christian Mahogany were downgraded, leaving the Lions relying on depth players on both defense and offense.
With the secondary shorthanded, Detroit faces the challenge of containing Rams’ top wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, who have thrived in Sean McVay’s dynamic offense. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is also continuing his strong season, adding pressure on the Lions’ defensive backs.
Head coach Dan Campbell emphasized making plays difficult for opposing receivers. “Our DBs know that even if they get beat on one, we make them earn it,” Campbell said. “You make it hard on them, stay in their hip pocket, and force them to work for every catch.”
Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard added that preparation and fundamentals are key. “It starts with coaching, putting players in optimal position, and then players executing. The critical stops come when the game is on the line and reps are high,” Sheppard explained.
The Detroit Lions’ roster changes and focus on disciplined coverage will be crucial as they aim to slow down the Rams’ explosive passing attack in Week 15.
