“That’s Nonsense”: Dan Campbell Blasts Adam Schefter for False Aidan Hutchinson Report

Dan Campbell doesn’t play around when it comes to fake stories. The Detroit Lions head coach ripped into ESPN insider Adam Schefter after claims surfaced that Detroit had contacted the NFL about opponents targeting star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson’s surgically repaired leg. Campbell dismissed the report as total garbage.

During his Wednesday press conference, Campbell pointed his finger and completely shut down the rumor. His comments about Schefter’s credibility left many fans wondering if the veteran ESPN reporter has lost his edge.

Dan Campbell Refutes Adam Schefter’s False Hutchinson Story

Hutchinson made his 2025 return after suffering a brutal tibia and fibula fracture that ended his season the year before. Determined to bounce back, the former No. 2 overall pick came back stronger. Through three games, Hutchinson notched 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks while continuing to anchor the Lions’ defensive front.

Schefter had reported during ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” before Detroit’s Week 3 victory over Baltimore that the Lions reached out to league officials regarding dirty hits on Hutchinson. He cited a play where Green Bay Packers tight end John FitzPatrick went low on Hutchinson in Week 1. Schefter added that both the Packers and Chicago Bears allegedly targeted the edge rusher’s once-broken leg.

Campbell wasn’t having any of it. “That’s bogus. That’s a bogus report,” he snapped, pointing for emphasis. “I don’t know where that came from. Nobody here ever did that. That’s bull.”

When reporters pressed him on whether he noticed opponents attacking Hutchinson’s legs, Campbell doubled down. “No. No, man. Nope,” he said firmly. He explained that football is a physical game played a certain way, and the Lions accept that reality whether they’re giving or receiving hits.

Detroit’s lone loss of the year came in Week 1 against Green Bay, 27–13. But Campbell’s irritation wasn’t about that defeat—it was about Schefter spreading misinformation about his team. Fans immediately reacted, fueling a heated online debate.

NFL Fans Rip Adam Schefter for Reckless Reporting

The backlash against Schefter came fast and furious after Campbell called him out. Many fans questioned whether the longtime insider is still reliable.

One fan wrote, “Adam is another clown they need to get rid of. He’s just saying anything now for clicks.”

Another added, “Schefter’s become a joke. Fire him already.”

The criticism didn’t stop there. A third observer said, “Teams are starting to blacklist Schefter—he’s lying more than ever.”

A fourth chimed in, “Schefty’s losing his touch.”

Schefter earned his fame by breaking trades and signings before anyone else. But stirring up fake drama? That’s not what built his reputation.

When a respected coach like Campbell publicly calls you out by name and accuses you of spreading lies, that’s a hit to your credibility no amount of money can fix.

The Lions, sitting at 2-1 and chasing a Super Bowl run, don’t need outside noise or made-up controversies getting in the way of their goals.
