The Detroit Lions head into Week 15 knowing there is little margin for error as they face the Los Angeles Rams, one of the league’s hottest teams. With former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford leading a high-powered offense and a physical defensive front on the other side, Los Angeles presents a difficult challenge for a Detroit team still searching for consistency.

Even so, Detroit remains alive in the playoff race, whether through a Wild Card spot or a potential late push in the division. To keep those hopes alive, the Lions will need standout performances from several key contributors. Here are three players who could have the biggest impact on Sunday’s matchup.

Aidan Hutchinson

While Hutchinson hasn’t matched his previous sack totals and no longer leads the team in that category—Al-Quadin Muhammad currently holds that distinction—his influence on the defensive line remains significant. Opposing offenses continue to devote extra attention to Hutchinson, using double teams and chip blocks to slow him down.

Despite that, Hutchinson has generated roughly 80 quarterback pressures this season, showing his ability to disrupt plays even when he doesn’t finish with a sack. With Muhammad emerging as another legitimate threat, the Rams may be forced to spread their blocking resources more evenly, potentially allowing Hutchinson more opportunities to break through and affect Stafford.

Jack Campbell

Campbell has become one of the cornerstones of Detroit’s defense and will play a critical role in this matchup. Paired with Alex Anzalone, the athletic linebacker has been a consistent difference-maker throughout the 2025 season. He ranks near the top of the league with 67 solo tackles, while also adding five sacks and three forced fumbles.

Campbell’s ability to strip the ball, rush the passer, and quickly fill running lanes makes him especially valuable against a Rams offense that relies on both quarterback timing and a productive ground game. His presence could be key in slowing down runners Kyren Williams and Blake Corum while also applying pressure up the middle.

Jahmyr Gibbs

Any list of Detroit’s most influential players begins with Jahmyr Gibbs. The dynamic running back is on the verge of history, sitting one touchdown shy of becoming the NFL’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns before turning 24, a mark currently held by Lions legend Barry Sanders.

Beyond the milestone, Gibbs’ speed and versatility as a receiver add another layer to Detroit’s already potent offense. In his previous meeting with the Rams, Gibbs totaled 40 rushing yards, 34 receiving yards, and found the end zone. If he can replicate that production, the Lions’ chances improve significantly.

Los Angeles allows just over 100 rushing yards per game, but Gibbs appears to be hitting his stride at the perfect time. A big outing from him could tilt the game in Detroit’s favor and keep their season alive.
