Video: Martha Ford, Who Turns 100 Tuesday, Receives Game Ball During Dan Campbell’s Postgame Speech at Ford Field
We’ve all missed those fiery postgame speeches inside the locker room from Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell.
On Sunday at Ford Field, fans finally heard Campbell deliver one of his signature locker room rants after Detroit’s 52-21 thrashing of Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears, while also handing out three game balls—including one to Martha Ford, who stepped down as Lions’ principal owner in 2020, passing leadership to her daughter Sheila Ford Hamp.
“I’ve got three game balls,” Campbell announced, presenting one to Martha Ford as Sheila looked on. “We’ve got a birthday coming. She turns 100 Tuesday, Mrs. Ford.”
“I’m very proud of you all,” Martha Ford said, standing with her walker and holding the ball. “I’m grateful for this honor. I’m proud of the progress you’re making. Every game excites me, and I’ve seen the difference. I believe we’ve got a tremendous leader guiding this team.”

Campbell also awarded balls to safety Brian Branch, who posted six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, and wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, who tallied nine receptions and three touchdowns.
Campbell began by telling his players:
“Nothing compares to earning that first victory of the year, while performing much better than last week, far better. When we watch the film, we’ll see communication improved, execution sharpened, and one-on-one battles were consistently won. We dominated many of those.
That’s what the film will reveal. Still, there’s plenty to clean up, and we will address it. The only thing we control is our own job… We believe in ourselves. We’re the ones who put in the effort. People doubted who we are. They overlooked the fact that we’re fighters.”
