The 23-year-old turned into Newcastle’s record purchase this summer, moving from Stuttgart to Tyneside for a staggering £69million.
Since his arrival, he has quickly impressed, with Eddie Howe extremely satisfied with Woltemade. Supporters are delighted too, eager to watch what the towering German can deliver while leading the line.
For Bayern Munich, they had envisioned Woltemade as their future striker. Yet, their inability to match the financial package allowed Newcastle United to swoop in and secure him.
That decision is already leaving regret at the Bundesliga powerhouse.
Bayern Munich angered as Nick Woltemade rejects move for Newcastle switch
That’s per journalist Danny Kelly, who shed light on Bayern Munich’s frustration after failing to land Woltemade, speaking during the newest episode of the View From The Lane podcast.
Kelly explained that Bayern Munich’s loss also related to concerns about playing time at the Allianz Arena, with Harry Kane already dominating the forward role there.
“All I’ll add quickly, after speaking with colleagues from Trans Europe Express [podcast], is Bayern Munich are utterly livid Woltemade picked Newcastle,” he said.
“They assumed he’d walk straight into the Bayern setup, but he avoided them knowing regular minutes weren’t guaranteed ahead of Harry Kane. He wanted to feature as a striker, and that’s exactly why he snubbed Munich.”
“So, Munich are furious with both themselves and the player for letting this entire scenario unfold.”
Bayern Munich figure insists Nick Woltemade cost far too much
The striker’s switch to Newcastle United has not gone down smoothly in Germany.
There appears to be bitterness from Bayern’s hierarchy, with honorary president Uli Hoeneß declaring that the Magpies vastly overpaid for the young frontman.
“He [Woltemade] isn’t worth ninety million euros,” he told .
“That transfer only happened due to Saudi Arabian money flooding the market.”
Interestingly, reports in Germany inflated the figure. Multiple outlets have claimed Newcastle’s outlay reached £79million, when in reality the final sum — including bonuses — was £10million lower.
Bayern Munich’s setback is Newcastle United’s triumph. They managed what Bayern could not, sealing Stuttgart’s prized striker, considered among Europe’s most exciting.
Though Woltemade is still regaining fitness, the early signs in black-and-white are positive. He has already won over the Toon Army, and his potential once fully sharp looks immense.
