Drake Throws Shade at LeBron James with Adjusted Lyrics in “Nonstop” Performance
The Cold War continues.
Drake and LeBron James are no longer friends. They had been close for over a decade, but their bond has since been broken. LeBron has fully embraced Los Angeles and shown support for Drake’s rival, Kendrick Lamar. In fact, LeBron even rapped to “Not Like Us” during a Juneteenth Pop Out show. The issue for Drake is that some of his biggest hits contain references to LeBron, but the rapper found a way to sidestep praising the NBA star during a recent concert in Australia.
Drake performed his 2018 hit “Nonstop” for the crowd, a song that includes a reference to LeBron’s jersey number change. “How I go from 6 to 23 like I’m LeBron?” the 6 God asks rhetorically. However, after the conflict with Kendrick Lamar and the end of his friendship with LeBron, Drake chose to alter the lyrics. “How I go from 6 to 23 but not LeBron,” he rapped for the audience. It’s a small change, but it carries a significant message. While Drake hasn’t openly discussed his relationship with LeBron, his actions clearly indicate he has no interest in rekindling it.
