Not too long ago, it seemed like the entire NFL was cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. But things have certainly shifted since then.

Six years ago, the Chiefs were seen as the feel-good story of the league. After a 50-year Super Bowl drought, they had a stellar young quarterback in Patrick Mahomes and an incredibly likable Andy Reid leading them. Finally, the team had reached the pinnacle, even ending the New England Patriots’ dominance in the process.

However, Kansas City didn’t just topple the Patriots’ dynasty; they took their place, evolving into an even more dominant force. The underdog had become the villain.

After winning back-to-back Super Bowls, this season has been the most frustrating yet for Chiefs’ rivals, with hostility toward them at an all-time high. From controversial calls to close moments and questionable referee decisions, here are some of the most exasperating moments for Chiefs detractors.

Honorable Mentions for Most Annoying Moment for Chiefs Haters

It’s been a tough year for Chiefs critics, who’ve always found something to complain about during Kansas City’s remarkable success.

The fact that the Chiefs had over five moments that particularly annoyed their detractors highlights just how upset people have become with Kansas City’s dominance.

From a coin toss to a bad snap and even a game where the Chiefs rested their starters, these events drove fans wild. However, none of these incidents quite made the top five most infuriating moments.

For example, the overtime coin toss the Chiefs won against Tampa Bay sparked a hilarious reaction from quarterback Baker Mayfield, further feeding the “luck” narrative.

Then, the next week, that “luck” seemed to continue when Las Vegas fumbled away a chance to beat the Chiefs, dropping the snap on a potential game-winning field goal.

Additionally, some Cincinnati fans and others in the NFL world were upset when Kansas City, having already secured a playoff spot, rested their starters in the Week 18 game against Denver, which had playoff implications for both the Broncos and Bengals.

Though these moments frustrated fans, they didn’t quite match the level of outrage caused by the following top five most aggravating moments for Chiefs haters.

Number 5: A Toe’s Length Away

The opening game of the season provided an early talking point for Chiefs critics—the “they’re just lucky” narrative.

Facing the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs held a late touchdown lead, but Lamar Jackson was driving the Ravens downfield. As time expired, Jackson found tight end Isaiah Likely for what appeared to be a crucial touchdown.

The Ravens quickly decided to go for a two-point conversion, but the replay booth stepped in.

Replays showed that while Likely caught the pass, he didn’t land in bounds by the smallest margin—the very tip of his toe hit the white paint at the back of the end zone, nullifying the touchdown and securing the Chiefs’ win.

Likely himself was visibly frustrated after the game, questioning Kansas City’s future chances.

Despite just winning an AFC Championship rematch, many detractors attributed the victory to luck, a sentiment that only grew louder in the coming weeks.

Number 4: Blocked!

Fast forward two months, and the Chiefs were 8-0, boasting the best record in the NFL. However, critics of their “luck” were becoming more vocal, citing a controversial pass interference call against Cincinnati and an overtime win over Tampa Bay after winning the coin toss.

The outcry reached a boiling point after Kansas City’s wild walk-off victory against Denver.

Despite a sluggish first half, with the Chiefs trailing 14-3, they fought their way back to a 16-14 lead in the fourth quarter. Denver still had time for a game-winning drive, and it looked like they might pull it off.

As the Broncos marched down the field, they set up for a seemingly easy 35-yard field goal to win the game. But Leo Chenal had other plans. The linebacker powered past a Broncos lineman and blocked the kick, denying Denver’s chance at victory. Chiefs haters, both Broncos fans and others, were left stunned and frustrated, their belief in the “lucky” Chiefs narrative further fueled.
