Lakers’ LeBron James hits back at Anthony Edwards’ ‘face of the NBA’ comment with an NSFW jab

After the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 111-102, LeBron James responded to Anthony Edwards’s comments about becoming the face of the NBA. On the same night Edwards was ejected for receiving his second technical foul, which will lead to a suspension, LeBron reminded the young All-Star that assuming such a role comes with immense responsibility.

Drawing from his own experiences, LeBron questioned whether Edwards truly wanted to take on that burden. According to Spectrum Sports Net, James remarked, “Why would you want to be the face of the league when the people who cover and talk about our game constantly criticize everyone? Taking on that responsibility feels strange. It brings a weird energy.” He continued, “Channing summed it up perfectly, saying he doesn’t want it. I certainly didn’t ask for it either.”

“But I knew it came with a responsibility to not only my family, friends, and community but also to everyone who would follow my journey, whether in Ohio where I started, across America, or worldwide as I traveled.”

LeBron has always understood the weight of being the NBA’s face.

“I’ve always respected and taken seriously the role of being a professional and a role model,” James added. “I’ve tried to carry that responsibility with honor. But I get what Ant is saying. I understand. This is a strange energy when it comes to that.”

Anthony Edwards picked up his 15th and 16th technical fouls of the 2024-25 season in the game against the Lakers. If neither foul is rescinded, he will face a one-game suspension.
