The Detroit Lions’ four-game winning streak came to a halt after their 30-17 road defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
An injury-thinned secondary couldn’t hold off the defending AFC champions, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed for 257 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground.
The Lions (4-2) saw quarterback Jared Goff throw for 203 yards and two touchdowns on 79.3% passing, with wideout Jameson Williams pacing the offense with six receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Yet, when Detroit needed a key drive late in the second half, the offense came up short once again.
The contest’s finish drew extra attention after a brief altercation broke out between Lions safety Brian Branch and Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster following the final whistle.
Detroit now falls to its second road defeat of the season and slips to second place in the NFC North, marking the first time it has been held under 20 points since Week 1’s loss.
Here’s a look at national reactions following the Lions’ first setback in more than a month:
