The Detroit Lions have bolstered their cornerback depth with the signing of a nine-year NFL veteran.
Ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Lions announced several roster adjustments to strengthen their secondary. The complete list of moves is shown below:
The most notable addition is Fuller, a nine-year league veteran. Selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Fuller has started 104 career games. He previously suited up for Washington in two separate stints (2016–17, 2020–23), the Kansas City Chiefs (2018–19), and most recently, the Miami Dolphins. Last season, he started 11 games for Miami, tallying 50 tackles, seven pass deflections, a fumble recovery, and earning a 66.2 PFF grade. Since 2017, Fuller has recorded PFF grades of 70 or higher every year except in 2020 and 2024.
The Dolphins released Fuller in February to free up nearly $3 million in cap space. It’s also important to note that he missed time last season due to two concussions.
Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 198 pounds, Fuller has primarily served as an outside corner throughout his career. His arrival gives Detroit much-needed depth, especially with D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, and Avonte Maddox all expected to miss Sunday’s contest against Tampa Bay.
In other moves, Eguakun and Smith were waived Saturday to make space for safety Erick Hallett, defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, and cornerback Nick Whiteside. After passing through waivers, both players have rejoined the roster.
The decision to release Strickland came as a mild surprise, considering Detroit’s shortage at safety with Brian Branch suspended and Kerby Joseph nursing a knee injury. It wouldn’t be shocking if Strickland returns to the practice squad, provided he clears waivers first.
