Quarterback Jared Goff has been warmly embraced by fans in Detroit since joining the team in January 2021. He has grown into one of the most respected and popular players on the Detroit Lions roster, especially after leading the franchise to back-to-back playoff appearances and consecutive NFC North division titles.
Although the Lions slipped slightly last season with a 9–8 record that saw them miss the playoffs, Goff still enjoys strong support from the Detroit fanbase.
On Wednesday night, Goff was spotted at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit, attending an NBA playoff matchup and receiving a loud ovation from the crowd.
The Detroit Pistons, who returned to the playoffs for the second straight year following a strong 60-win season, hosted the Orlando Magic in Game 2 of their first-round series when Goff was introduced on the arena’s video board. The announcement from longtime public address voice John Mason drew an enthusiastic reaction from fans.
This isn’t the first time Detroit sports fans have cheered local sports figures at Pistons games. Last season, head coach Dan Campbell was also met with excitement when shown during a playoff appearance at the arena.
Goff was joined by several notable guests at the game, including members of the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team, fresh off a national championship, as well as head coach Dusty May and players Yaxel Lendeborg and Elliot Cadeau. Former Pistons star and Detroit mayor Dave Bing, along with Michigan “Fab Five” legend Jalen Rose, were also in attendance.
Looking ahead, Goff has already turned his focus toward the 2026 NFL season. After hosting his football camp over the weekend, he expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with teammates for offseason workouts and preparation.
Recent changes in the Lions’ coaching staff have also brought adjustments on offense, including the departure of coordinator John Morton and the hiring of former Arizona Cardinals coordinator Drew Petzing.
Goff explained that the coming weeks will mainly involve strength training and conditioning, with more on-field work beginning in Phase Two of the offseason program.
During the 2025 season, Goff posted strong numbers, passing for 4,564 yards with 34 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, completing 68% of his passes and earning a 105.5 passer rating.
